The Accommodations

Papaaloa Plantation lies at the 1400 foot elevation overlooking the Hamakua Coast. The two bedroom home has a central living area with high ceilings and sliding pocket doors that open on to a spacious deck. In keeping with its location on a timber plantation the interior of the home features many of the species of trees grown on the property
The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, two refrigerators, pots. plates, utensils and most of the basics in terms of condiments, spices and supplies. We ask that as you use items such as paper towels and napkins you replace them for the use of the next guest. Just outside the kitchen is a take one leave one library for guests. The living area provides a perfect spot to curl up with a good book. There is also a good supply of indoor games and a horseshoe pit for outdoor fun.
Overlooking the living room on either side of the house are lofts that are accessible by ladders. Technically the lofts are designated as storage, but there are mattresses in them for additional sleeping quarters that can be used at your own risk. The ladders to the lofts are relatively steep and as a result should not be used by young children or the infirm.
The house is energy efficient and uses only power and water generated on the property. For electricity we rely primarily upon solar power that is stored in a large battery bank under the house. There is a back up generator that will run during periods of high usage and poor weather. The stove and hot water run on propane. The hot water is generated on demand to avoid waste. There is a manual in the house that explains the operation of the electrical and plumbing systems for your information. The off grid systems in the home allow you to get away from it all and still enjoy all of the modern conveniences.
